road trip
Dust kicked up from the dirt road as the Cadillac came to a stop. Looking at the sign, Julie wasn’t sure which way to go. To the left was Milford, to the right, Evanstown. She lit a cigarette and took a long drag. Deciding Milford was as good as Evanstown, she headed left.
Two hours later she entered Milford. She stopped at a doughnut shop and bought two doughnuts and two bottles of water. Leaning against the trunk, she finished one doughnut and half of one water.
Opening the trunk, she handed the other doughnut and bottle to the boy.
